You’re invited to attend Dialogue Across Divides talk with Aaron Yarmel.
What happens when an 8th grade class, a dorm full of college students, or a room of medical professionals confront deep disagreements and the most controversial topics head-on? In my work at The Ohio State University, I facilitate dialogues across some of the most fraught divides—from activists interrogating the ethics of violent resistance to health care teams navigating intergroup conflict. These conversations happen in many forms: one-off events responding to urgent community needs, and ongoing programs like my bi-weekly Dorm Dialogues and my Philosophy for & With Children program. In this time when the risks of tackling controversial topics are higher than ever, successful dialogue depends on more than goodwill: it requires strong institutional support, excellent colleagues, and a deep grounding in reliable dialogue facilitation techniques. In this talk, I’ll share the story of my center’s dialogue initiatives and the practical techniques I count on during even the most difficult dialogues.
